Germany FAQs for
Pakistani Students

The APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate is issued by the German Embassy in Islamabad after verifying your Pakistani academic documents. It confirms your qualifications meet German university requirements. It is MANDATORY for all Pakistani students applying to German universities. It costs approximately €200 (PKR 62,000) and takes 4–8 weeks.

Yes! Most German public universities charge no tuition fees for both domestic and international students. You only pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of €250–€350 per semester, which often includes a public transport pass for the city.

A blocked account is a German bank account that proves you have sufficient funds for living expenses. For a student visa, you must deposit €11,208 (approx PKR 34,74,480) annually. After arriving in Germany, you can withdraw approximately €934 per month. Popular providers include Fintiba and Expatrio.

It depends on your program. For German-taught programs: TestDaF or DSH at C1 level. For English-taught programs (especially Masters): IELTS 6.0–7.0 or equivalent TOEFL. Many Masters programs are fully in English, so German is not always required.

Yes! Pakistani students can work up to 120 full days or 240 half-days per year without any special permit. Student jobs are common at universities, restaurants, and retail. Average earnings are €10–€15/hour, which can significantly help cover living expenses.

Yes! Both Bachelor’s and Master’s students can bring dependents (spouse and children under 18) to Germany. You need an additional blocked account: €5,604/year for spouse (PKR 17,37,000) and €3,600/year per child (PKR 11,16,000). Dependent visa costs €75 per person and takes 8–12 weeks to process.

The entire process typically takes 12–18 months: APS certificate (4–8 weeks), language preparation (3–6 months), university application (2–3 months), waiting for admission (2–3 months), and visa processing (6–12 weeks). Start planning early!

For Bachelor’s programs, Pakistani HSSC (Intermediate) may not be sufficient for direct entry. Many students need to attend Studienkolleg (1-year preparatory course) or complete their first 2 years of Bachelor’s in Pakistan first. For Master’s programs, a Pakistani Bachelor’s degree is usually sufficient.
